Biography

Jeffrey is a jazz guitarist and composer from Toronto, Canada who now lives in Leeds, UK. He received his Bachelor of Music from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, spent a number of years on the Toronto jazz scene and recently moved to England to study at Leeds College of Music for his Masters in Music Performance and Composition. As part of his Masters, he studied withStuart McCallum,Mike WalkerandJamie Taylor. He has also studied with Peter Bernstein,Michael Kanan,Seamus Blake,Chris Cheek,Jorge Rossy,Howard Alden,Gilad Hekselman,Lorne Lofsky,John Abercrombie,Barry HarrisandTed Quinlan

Jeffrey has been playing for 20 years in many different musical settings – with duos, trios, quartets, and big bands. He also performs solo guitar and accompanies singers. 

In Toronto he performed with Ed Sweetman,David Rubel,Joel Sheridan,Carol Oya, Jordan Glick and his Jazz Collective,Marie Goudy,Alison Youngand the fusion bandZimZum.

Since moving to Leeds, Jeffrey plays with members of the jazz scene at venues such asSeven Arts,LS6 Cafe,Cafe Lento, Matt and Phreds and Zeffirellis and with the function bandsMight As Well Be Swing,Kabuki Wedding Band,andPhil Lyons and his New Vintage Band. He also performs regularly with vocalist Rebecca Frodsham as the Jazz By Jeff and Becky duo. He has recently put together a trio and quartet of fantastic local musicians for performing original music and you can check them out on this site!

Jeffrey is board member of Seven Jazz Leeds, winners of the 2016 Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Jazz Venue
